Eight years.
Twenty-four hours a day.
Thirty-two graduates.
Countless families and communities.
One home for youth who want to recover from issues of substance abuse in El Salvador.
The New Dawn Residential Program remains the only program for kids and teens in all of El Salvador. We are filled to maximum capacity and there are multiple youth on the waiting list hoping for a chance to start fresh.
We have been working literally around the clock since January of 2017 to care for youth who need the type of support that only a residential program can provide. We have done that work with a Gospel-based focus. We have incorporated spiritual resources, therapeutic sessions, drug and alcohol treatment, academic support, vocational training, sports, trauma-informed care, family interventions and more. We know that for many of these youth this is their last chance to avoid the streets, jail or worse.
Our work extends to families and communities so that stories can change for everyone. We are now receiving cases from the States as Salvadoran families return to the country and as the fetanyl crisis spreads and families are left without resources to find adequate care for their kids.
The cost to put one resident through the full nine months of comprehensive treatment costs a minimum of $5,000. In addition, there are other costs of clothing, medication and transportation. On top of that, after 8 years, our building needs some repairs for a leaky roof, worn-out furniture, and kitchen renovations.
Our program has a long-term success rate of around 75% and we believe that is for several key reasons. First, we are focused on getting to the bottom of the addiction and using a program rooted in the Gospel of Christ. We are all working to be reconciled to God in this process. Second, we are intervening early in the process to give youth the best chance of success. Third, we are working with whole families so youth can reintegrate into healthier family systems. Finally, we create a home where our residents and graduates can always find a safe place to come back to no matter what they are facing.
During and after their time in the program, our residents and graduates can keep coming home. One of our graduates, David, recently shared the impact the program had on his life. Click here to watch part of his personal story.
In order to keep making our home a safe, clean and healthy place, we need your help!
We are investing every possible dollar we can into the recovery process of our residents and we have a full house! In order to keep making our home the best it can be, we need partners to join us in two ways:
One-time donations toward much needed renovations of our building.
Monthly donors to support the monthly costs associated with keeping our building clean, dry and cool so that our residents are recovering in the best environment possible.
